Brian van Vlimmeren – Strand : eLearning (S2-SP11)
“Building a 21st century school for 21st century learners : New ways of thinking and doing schooling”

Brian van Vlimmeren is a Leader of Learning at St Marks Catholic College, Stanhope Gardens. Prior his appointment at St Marks, he was a Learning Technologies Education Officer with Catholic Education Parramatta. Brian held a number of leadership positions in schools and was an Apple Educator of Excellence. Brian has also worked in both State and Catholic education as a Science and Information Technology teacher.

St Mark’s Catholic College is a member of the K to 12 Catholic Learning community of Blessed John XXIII, and Catholic Education Parramatta’s newest secondary school. Curriculum at the College is developed through an interdisciplinary, inquiry based pedagogy conducted by Learning Advisors who co teach in a learner centred open plan flexible learning spaces.

The College curriculum is enhanced by a rich ICT environment facilitated by a 1 to 1 notebook program and 24/7 access to learning activities through the colleges virtual learning environment, Catholic Education Network (CEnet).

This spotlight will focus on how the educators have crafted the learning landscape at St Marks; the learning environment, the learning, the pedagogy and the learning tools, to engage the 21st Century digital learner.
