Dale Pearce is the principal of Bendigo Senior Secondary College. He has worked in eight Victorian schools in a 30 year career, including substantive and acting principal positions in five schools. He has served on several statewide reference groups and along with other secondary principals in Bendigo, has a key role in driving the implementation of the Bendigo Education Plan.
In 2006 the six government secondary schools in Bendigo embarked on an ambitious plan to transform secondary education in the city. The Bendigo Education Plan involves six school communities in an initiative to take secondary eduction into the 21st century through a cooperative approach to provision, workforce planning, curriculum and pedagogy. The merits of the plan were recognised with a government commitment of over $70m for facilities development and implementation of a new approach to teaching and learning. This presentation will focus on the key elements of the plan and the inherent challenges of school transformation for school leaders.
