“Building a Genuine Model of Distributed Leadership”

Gerry Schiller is College Principal at Glen Waverley Secondary College. Apart from his general responsibilities of leading a school of over 1900 students Gerry has been providing substantive leadership in the rebuilding of the College to ensure new learning spaces are in sympathy with the requirements of generation.com. This has included his passion to develop and sustain appropriate leadership capacity that will guarantee the College’s relevance and future.
Team learning aimed at building the collective capacity of the group to lead has been pivotal to its operation for many years. Research shows that change can be more successfully sustained in the long term where leadership responsibility is both broadly distributed and propelled by a strong sense of alignment. This spotlight draws upon the Glen Waverley experience to examine strategies for building an authentic model of distributed leadership capable of driving a significant journey of innovation.
